This article will tell you what is Usenet, what is newsgroup, what is newsreader, and Why Usenet is not so popular and well-known.

1. What is Usenet?

The Usenet is a global network that has evolved parallel with the Internet. The main purpose of it is to help people from all over the world to interchange information about a large number of subjects, all of which are diveded into different newsgroups. The Usenet is a highly independent platform, although an internet connection is must-have to log in it.

2. What is newsgroup?

Newsgroups are the basic units in which the subjects that are talked about on the Usenet are organized in. Every newsgroup has its own subject on which the users can exchange viewpoints. Obviously, newsgroups are something like threads in internet forums. All registered users have the right to join the discussions on the Usenet.

3. What is newsreader?

It is more understanding to compare a newsreader to a browser (IE, Firefox, etc.). Without a browser, you are not able to access the Internet. Without a newsreader, you can't reach the Usenet. A newsreader allows you to find and read contents on the Usenet and to take part in discussions.

4. Why is the Usenet not very popular and well-known?

The Usenet was invented almost at the same time with the Internet and the two of them spread at a same level from the beginning. While decentralized structures appeared later and made the Usenet hard to understand for new users. For the last 5 years, this shortcoming has been overcome by a Usenet provider called UseNext. With the help of UseNext, the access to the Usenet is now so easy and enjoyable.
