Have you ever wondered whether it helps the computer to work faster if you delete all prefetch files? Well, the answer is no!
As you may see, there are so many files in the prefetch folder and it is reasonable for you to have such a doubt like mentioned above. Perhaps you've taken it for granted that so many prefetch files may take up more computer memory and slow the computer's responding speed. But this is not true.
You can even find a lot of articles online guiding you to delete prefetch files manually. However, there is no need to do so. In fact, prefetch files are not shortcuts and they can help Windows System to shorten the booting up process by optimizing search operation during the launch. So if you delete prefetch files manually, exactly opposite to what you have thought, your computer will only get slower rather than faster.
Prefetch files are obsolete files which are rarely used. They are referred by the Cache Manager only when a particular application is launched. Moreover, when the prefetch folder reaches about 128 files, it will carry out a self-cleaning process. Which is to say, it's not necessary for you to take care of prefetch files at all.
